The Alfa Romeo G1 was the first all-new design from Alfa Romeo after the end of the A.L.F.A. brand. Giuseppe Merosi, while into a legal action against Nicola Romeo about the takeover conditions, designed at home the drawings for both the update of the prewar 24HP into the revised 20/30ES and the new luxury G1. Chassis was longer and stiffer than the 40-60 HP of 1914 with the Rolls-Royce market as a target. The Biggest new thing in this car was a new 6.3 L (384 cu in) straight-6 engine, which produced 70 bhp (52 kW) and 216 lb·ft (293 N·m) of torque. The car achieved a top speed of 86 miles per hour (138 km/h). The G1 was used also in motorsport and it won its own class at Coppa de Garda. Petrol prices were rising and it was hard to sell a car with such a big engine, so total production was only 52 copies. At this moment only one copy exists at New Zealand's Alfa Importer, this is also the oldest surviving Alfa Romeo branded car.

The planned follower Alfa Romeo G2, an improved version, was never produced after the commercial failure of the G1, which found virtually no customers in Italy and whose full batch of 50 (the other 2 were prototypes) found their way to Australia.

A.L.F.A. or later Alfa Romeo has made three cars named as 20/30 HP, first one 1910 4-cylinder 4-6-seater tourer, improved version 20/30 HP E in 1914 and 1921 the 20/30 HP ES Sport, a 4-seater sportscar.

The Alfa 20-30 HP

The A.L.F.A 20-30 HP was almost identical to the 24 HP of 1910 and could be called HP 24 Series E. The engine was same as used in 24 HP but now the camshaft with side chain, to reduce noise. The maximum power was increased to 49 bhp at 2400 rpm and the top speed was 115 kilometres per hour (71 mph). The vehicle was available in two body variants: berlina and torpedo.

At the outbreak of World War I, August 3, 1914, Italy declared itself neutral and A.L.F.A. plants have not been directly affected by war or by manufacturing related to the war effort. Production between 1914 and 1915 was 285 copies finished 20-30 HP models. In 1915, production was 95 frame for 20-30 HP, but they were only completed in 1920.

Alfa Romeo 20/30 HP ES Sport

Alfa Romeo Torpedo 20/30 HP is the first Alfa Romeo named car after A.L.F.A. brand. 20/30 HP had 4250 cc sidevalve straight-4 engine and it produced 67 bhp. Car was meant to upper class and price was high, around three times more than Ford Model T, which was remarkable amount immediately after World War I.

ES Sport was based on the 1914 20/30 E model. The "S" was added to emphasize the sportiness of the car. This car had electric lights and starter. The chassis was shortened from previous E model. Enzo Ferrari began his racing career in a 20/30 ES, with teammates Antonio Ascari and Ugo Sivocci.

Price was one of the reasons that only 124 cars were produced.

The A.L.F.A 24 HP came on the market in 1910. This was the first automobile created by A.L.F.A (later Alfa Romeo). Giuseppe Merosi was the man behind engineering. The car was used for the first time in car racing in the 1911 Targa Florio. This was first commercial success for the company and the timeline of the HP series tells that the car was continuously developed onwards. The 24HP had a 4,082 cc (249.1 cu in) straight-4 sidevalve engine, which produced 42 bhp (31 kW) with 2200 rpm and gave top speed of over 100 kilometres per hour (62 mph).[3] Until 1913 approximately 200 A.L.F.A 24 HPs were built.

The engine designation consisting of a number as well as "HP" came from the then usual designation of tax schedules. The 24HP became the starting point of a whole series of vehicles, which were built until 1921 and included:

• 12HP, 2413 cc straight-4 and 22 bhp (16 kW), (1910–1911)
• 15HP, 2413 cc straight-4 and 25 bhp (19 kW), (1912–1913)
• 40-60 HP, 6082 cc straight-4 and 70 bhp (52 kW), (1913–1914)
• 15-20 HP, 2413 cc straight-4 and 28 bhp (21 kW), (1914–1915)
• 20-30 HP, 4082 cc straight-4 and 49 bhp (37 kW), (1914–1920)
• 20-30 ES Sport, 4250 cc straight-4 and 67 bhp (50 kW), (1921)
